Who would have thought that one of the most anticipated moments of the year for the home building and interior design industry is when the Color of the Year is announced? Just recently, we witnessed two paint companies release their picks for the 2022 Color of the Year, and we couldn’t be more excited. Sherwin-Williams chose Evergreen Fog (SW 9130), a healthy-looking and sophisticated grayish-green, for its 12th official Color of the Year. Dunn-Edwards unveiled its choice called Art and Craft (DET682), which is an autumnal hue that airs on the side of a warm and earthy shade – evoking feelings of stability and calm, but allowing for creativity for those who want to try something new.
If you’ve recently purchased a new Triangle home or are in the process of purchasing a new home, why not experiment with one of these 2022 Color(s) of the Year? Although they are different, both colors have one thing in common: fresh starts and new opportunities.
Sherwin-Williams has an entire color and design team that researches and identifies trends that influence the way people interact with color. According to those findings, we see the Colormix Forecast come to life. From there, the Color of the Year is then selected from the chosen color predictions.
According to director of color marketing Sue Wadden, “Evergreen Fog is a sophisticated wash of color for spaces that crave a subtle yet stunning statement shade.” She continued, “Evergreen Fog inspires us to begin again and is a great choice for modern interiors and exteriors.”
Because of its subtle nature, this shade is great for every room in your home and pairs well with all styles from art deco to modern organic and more. Thanks to its ability to freshen up a space, Sherwin-Williams’ shade pairs exceptionally well with metals such as champagne gold, brass tones, and even muted blacks.
As far as Dunn-Edwards, we’re seeing the 2022 Color of the Year is meant to embrace reality and new opportunities to pave the way for new paths and conquer uncharted territories. Art and Craft is a timeless shade that embraces the past, but sets up a certain optimism and excitement for the future. Because quarantine brought forth a new appreciation for human connection and nature, Art and Craft meets gives off a vibe that unites the two. With a slight bohemian flair and folkloric design, Art and Craft connects trends of earthy hues by way of fashion, furniture, and design.
Expect to see this versatile color applied across a variety of industries and disciplines throughout 2022 that signifies comfort and calm – something we all desire in the present times.
