Raleigh Named Second Best Big City to Live in

Raleigh has been named the second Best City to Live in by Money Magazine. Living in the Triangle, it’s not hard to come up with reasons why Raleigh is so lovable. With great jobs, endless local restaurants, amazing access to nature, and housing options on all ends of the spectrum, Raleigh is a great place to live.

Raleigh has a population of over 430,000. One couple from New York decided to move to Raleigh because of its top rankings in enjoying retirement and career options: a choice that would provide longevity for them. A town that is full of young families, Money reported that the number of children between ages 5-14 grew more than 55% from 2000 to 2013.

Job growth has soared 20% in the last 10 or so years, as well. Nearby Research Triangle Park allows Raleigh residents a short drive to some of the world’s biggest companies. The median home price is $208,250, and depending on your desired area to live in, affordable housing isn’t usually hard to find. Raleigh ranks in the top 25 of metro areas in housing affordability.

A lot of people live in Raleigh because of the amazing culture and arts scene. With 3 close-by local universities (UNC Chapel Hill, Duke, and NC State), Money reports that Raleigh has over 80 live music venues and two fine Arts museums. There’s no shortage of green-space either, with countless miles of trails, greenways with access all over, and tons of options for local fitness facilities.

Money highlights one of Oak City’s hottest neighborhoods, Mordecai. Just outside of downtown and nearby eclectic neighborhood Oakwood, it’s not hard to see why people are flocking here. Historic homes line the streets in this part of town. However, like the gorgeous community Oakdale at Mordecai by Robuck Homes [watch a video tour here], new home construction is not in short supply close to downtown!
