Raleigh has been awarded the number two spot in the United States for cities that are building the most new housing.

In an article by Forbes Magazine entitled “The Cities Doing the Most to Address the US Housing Shortage,” Forbes awards Austin, TX as the top spot, with Raleigh, NC coming in second. The list includes factors such as affordability and median incomes, and measures by construction permits for housing units. Raleigh was described as North Carolina’s “boom town,” along with Charlotte (coming in at the 4th spot).

If the list only included new single-family construction, Raleigh would have won the top spot, with Austin coming in second. New construction in the suburbs of the south is much more successful than the rest of the country, and Raleigh is leading the way.

Raleigh is a great place to live for many different reasons, including the environment, history, employment opportunities, the arts and the booming housing market. As a focal point of the state’s Triangle area, you have in this city a taste of country living with all the conveniences of a major metropolis. Steeped in a rich history from its humble beginnings when it was named after the famous English explorer, Raleigh attracts a broad and diverse population that gives it a delightful blend of southern charm with a big city attitude.
