The rumors are true. Cary is getting an IKEA. The home furnishing retailer announced its plans to open a location in the Triangle right near Interstate 40 and Cary Towne Boulevard, across from Cary Towne Center.

If approved, the IKEA will be the second in North Carolina. With plans to open as early as 2020, the proposal includes a 359,000-square-foot store along with a two-level parking garage.

IKEA U.S. President Lars Petersson said, “We are excited about the opportunity for a potential second North Carolina IKEA store at this location in Cary. A store in the Raleigh area would complement our strong presence established in Charlotte and eventually provide customers in Central and Eastern North Carolina an IKEA store closer to them.”

Another benefit to IKEA potentially coming to Cary? Lots of jobs. Supposedly, the new store could bring as many as 500 jobs to the area during construction, as well as 300 employees who will join the IKEA family when the new store opens.
